Selecting your bed sheets isn’t just about the price or the recognizable name. Getting quality sheets can improve the quality of the sleep you get. You should always take time to set up the right environment for resting and that includes the bedding you have.

There are so many types of sheets and fabrics to choose from, and it can get a bit complicated. While some people like to use trial and error to figure out the best sheets for them, there is an easier way to make the choice.

Let's go through the best sheets for each sleeper.

Microfiber vs. Cotton Sheets

Microfiber and cotton sheets are two of the most common sheets that people choose. They share a few similarities but some factors set them apart.

Microfiber sheets

These sheets are made from very fine fibers. They are usually soft to touch. This is because microfiber sheets have a high thread count. Microfiber sheets are also very affordable, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank to get quality sheets.

Cotton Sheets

There are different types of cotton sheets and they are made differently. Jersey cotton is a common option. Jersey is knit rather than woven, leaving the sheets very breathable.

When choosing between microfiber and cotton, you need to know whether you are a cool or hot sleeper. If you are a person who tends to get hot at night, getting a lighter, more breathable fabric is suggested. Microfiber sheets are very breathable. Cotton sheets are breathable depending on the type.

People with skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis have reported that sleeping on cotton provides them with more comfort. Cotton is also a very durable fabric.

Softest Bed Sheets

Different determining factors make sheets soft. Most people go after soft sheets because it’s easier on the skin and hair.

When wanting to find soft sheets, always look at the thread count. This is the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. The higher the count, the softer the sheets.

  • Silk sheets take the cake when it comes to softness but can be very expensive. Silk is soft on the skin and hair, so you don’t have to worry about friction.
  • Cotton sheets are always a soft option. Egyptian cotton is the softest kind but can sometimes be difficult to find and pricey. Cotton like Pima is soft and durable.
  • Linen sheets get softer with time and dry faster than cotton.
  • Bamboo sheets also get softer with time, like linen. This fabric is great for people who get hot while sleeping.

How to Take Care of New Bed Sheets

Bedsheets are made in dusty factories and should always be washed before and during usage. Adding a cup of baking soda and a half-cup of white vinegar will give you a deeper clean.

Using the same detergent you would use on your clothing is recommended. Fabric softeners can also help keep sheets soft and comfortable.

Bed sheets play a vital role in your sleep comfort. Now that you’re on your way to choosing the best, you can also use the BetterSleep app to improve all of your sleep practices. The free app can help you create a bedtime routine to enjoy those new sheets.
