The heart chakra is a powerful center of love, compassion, and connection. If you allow energy to flow through it freely, you experience joy, love, and meaningful relationships. A blockage leads to distrust, grudges, and fear. Try mantras and affirmations to open your heart chakra and open your heart to love, joy, and better health.

What Are Chakras?

The idea of chakras originated in ancient Hindu texts. In Sanskrit, chakra means wheel or disk. Chakras are wheels of energy, energy centers, in the body. They line up along the spine, from the base to the top of the head.

Prana, healing energy, flows through the chakras, which should be in balance. A chakra out of balance, blocked, or overactive manifests in physiological and psychological ways.

What is Heart Chakra?

The heart chakra is at the center of the chest, by your heart. This is the fourth chakra, counting up from the root chakra at the base of the spine. It is called the Anahata and is the connection between the lower chakras, representing physical matter, and the higher chakras of the spirits.

Associated with the color green and the element of air, the heart chakra allows you to give and receive love and compassion for yourself and others. A balanced, aligned heart chakra allows you to feel love and joy, be receptive to love, accept yourself, and connect with people and the natural world.

Is Your Heart Chakra Blocked?

Emotionally, a blocked heart chakra makes you closed off to love. It prevents you from loving fully, being compassionate with yourself and others, and trusting others.

With a blocked heart chakra, you might be closed off emotionally and find it hard to connect with others or build meaningful, trusting relationships. You hold grudges, feel jealous, and are hypercritical of yourself and other people.

How to Open Your Heart Chakra

Opening a blocked heart chakra is all about being receptive to love and loving the world around you. Physically, you can try yoga poses that open up the chest, like camel pose, the wheel, cow face, and humble warrior. Physical poses help, but perhaps more important is opening your spirit to love.

Affirmations for Heart Chakra Meditations

A great way to open a blocked heart chakra is through meditation with specific affirmations. Repeating and focusing on the right affirmations or mantras help you tap into the heart chakra frequency. Targeting this energy helps unblock the chakra.

Try repeating heat chakra mantras daily and during meditation sessions for an intense focus on opening your heart:

  • I love myself unconditionally

  • My heart radiates love and light
  • My heart is full of joy
  • There is enough love for everyone

The time just before bed is perfect for profoundly manifesting these ideas. To really open up the heart, meditate on the heart chakra, on love, on compassion and connection, before drifting off to sleep. You’ll find yourself more receptive to love and open to trust while also sleeping better and more peacefully.
